Time shelter
In my project “Regrowth” (2023) I presented my thoughts and feelings regarding my family’s past, present, and future at the time. The few years before the creation of the project were full of sickness, grief, and loss. The atmosphere around us was grim and sombre.
Although we managed to sustain a positive attitude by supporting each other, the overall mood did not change until my sister’s first pregnancy, which seemed to shift everything. Suddenly an air of bliss and hopefulness surrounded us, which only increased after the birth. The positive influence was undeniable, yet my sister’s adversities couldn’t be looked over. Aside from the physical demands of motherhood, there were various emotional hardships she went through.
How does one deal with the feeling of being responsible for their family’s future? Are we dependent on life changing events to make us enthusiastic about the future or can we find joy being fixed? Can children and young adults take the pressure of meeting expectations?
Focusing on the impact of a new life in our home, the changes we go through, as well as the joys and struggles of these experiences I ponder on these questions, aiming to present my perspective on these universal conflicts.
